Fall is here and as I write this newsletter there are only 88 days left for donors to receive their charitable contribution deduction for outright and planned gift agreements. Monitor your marketing plans carefully. With the stock market increases this year we should see some unique opportunities in the planned gift area.

In 2006 83% of America’s said they contributed to charity but their total giving decreased from $1,352 to $1,220.

Only 32% of US adults have a positive feeling about charitable organizations and what is striking about the data is that the closer Americans get in age to being those who will transfer wealth, the less they trust the non-profits who seek to receive that wealth. Not a good sign for planned giving. ......And while we are on this topic American actually trust infomercial (26%) more than they do Congress (20%) and used car salesmen (17%) score higher than corporate executives (13%).

On the bright side...Almost 90% of the richest Americans say the primary reason they give to charity is they believe in specific causes and have a desire to "give back to society" according the the latest US Trust Survey of Affluent Americans released in April.
